September 15 is a significant day because it celebrates the anniversary of independence for several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In the case of Mexico and Chile, their independence is celebrated on September 16 and 18, respectively. In this context, and within this 30-day period, October 12 marks the celebration of Día de la Raza.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States means honoring more than just one history. Along with the legacy of Spanish-speaking communities, we recognize Latinidad: a vibrant network of identities from Latin America and the Caribbean, woven with Indigenous, African, European, and Asian threads. These two concepts differ in origin but converge wherever our communities meet, learn, and create together.
That shared space is visible at Georgetown. That’s why, during this Hispanic Heritage Month, the Office of Alumni Relations at the McDonough School of Business, in collaboration with the Latin America Leadership Program (LALP), proudly highlights the positive impact of our alumni network connected to this rich diversity of cultures and identities across the Americas and beyond.
