Who are we?
We are a group of researchers at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. We work in collaboration with the Thelma D. Jones Breast Cancer Fund and Nueva Vida, two community organizations that support breast cancer survivors in the Washington, DC area.
Together, we aim to empower Black and Latina breast cancer survivors with access to information about COVID-19 and breast cancer.
We conducted a study that interviewed approximately 50 Black/African American and Latina breast cancer survivors to learn about their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and their needs as breast cancer survivors.
The information we gathered revealed a big need among breast cancer survivors for reliable and trustworthy sources of information that is easy to understand. Also, information needs to mainly target breast cancer survivors.
This website is the result of our teams’ work to identify the needs in the community and fill in the gaps regarding COVID-19 and breast cancer. All the information shared in this website is based on scientific data, information from experts, and real stories from Black/African American and Latina breast cancer survivors in the community.
We hope that you find this a valuable resource.
