As part of the revamped CMAP program, the extra-curricular event I attended was the Parish Youth Assembly held at the Catholic Church in Qatar. The event gathered more than 300 youths who belong to the different community groups from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Italy, Spain, and South Korea. The youth assembly aimed to bring Catholic youths in Doha under the theme of “Circle of Friends.” Digital media disruption was evident; the whole event was streamed online, there was an official hashtag for social media posts, and the talk itself focused on bridging religiosity with youth culture via social media. The event contributed to my overarching topic by showing that digital media disruption forced the church to clarify its mission in light of the technological changes. The priest even emphasized on using social media platforms in order to share our religious experience online and attract more youths to get engaged with the church. At the end of the event, participants were encouraged to post our favorite bible quote, followed by the event hashtag #PYA2018.
