Eat the Right Amount for You: Portions, Health and Sustainability

The Spring 2026 Portion Balance Coalition Convening brings together leaders from CPG, foodservice, academia, and policy to examine the role of portions in advancing health and sustainability.

The 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans include “Eat the Right Amount for You,” bringing renewed attention to portion control and portion management within dietary guidance. This provides important context for ongoing research and applied work related to portion balance, health outcomes, and sustainability.

Portion balance has the power to drive systemic change while improving health and advancing sustainability. When thoughtfully applied, portion strategies influence how food is formulated, packaged, served, and consumed—shaping outcomes at scale without relying solely on individual behavior change.

This convening provides a neutral forum for collaboration and shared learning, focused on how portion balance is being applied in practice across products, menus, and research. Through case presentations, discussion, and research exchange, participants will explore how portion strategies contribute to health outcomes, market innovation, and sustainability goals.

The convening will also feature the launch of the PBC White Paper on Customizing Portions & Food Waste, highlighting research insights and practical approaches to reducing waste through portion design.
