A ‘Control Room’ will be established this year that will have a Basketball Otago staff member in it and ready to help/assist where needed, this will either be in one of the lounges by Court 4/5 or a table that sits at the end of Court 6. The Control Room will have all the game/scorecards, POD vouchers/certificates, basketballs and bands for courts.
A matrix will be provided with the registration form to help inform where teams should be placed.
Change in start time from 3.30pm to 3.45pm (Year 1-2 games will be prioritised for the first couple of rounds, a spreadsheet of game times will be kept, to ensure that Year 5/6 late game times are scheduled with fairness.
Introduction of a “Girls Only” grade in Year 5/6 (**subject to entries)
Uniforms are complusory (PE uniforms are fine) numbers not essential, but each team must have a uniform.
The retreat rule (when you are up by 20+ points) will be added to the match rules.
For the Year 3/4 competition the first 3 weeks of competition will be a trial of a band system (more information will come on this)
Years 1-4 will be coach/parent refereed, with the exception of courts 4/5 where will have a small group of Basketball Otago development referees. Again there will be a spreadsheet kept to ensure that all Year 3/4 teams are rotated on these courts to ensure fairness.
Basketball Otago will attempt to provide referees for all Year 5/6 grades, with a small amount of developing referees to ref Year 3/4 on courts 4/5 to develop confidence. Where Basketball Otago can’t fill this appointments, it is an expectation that each team provides a ref for their game.
Any Basketball Otago appointed referee that has GREEN Whistle are referees who are under the age of 18, a new and inexperienced referee and shall not be approached/questioned. If you have any referee questions or concerns, please find an Basketball Otago staff member who will be able to assist.
Basketball Otago has a ‘Zero tolerance’ policy for players, officials, sideline spectators and this will be enforced if needed throughout the season.
