Hockey Term 2/3 2026 - registrations close FRIDAY 10th April link to registration
Hockey for Term 2 and 3 is offered for Years 1-6 in 2026.
Start Date: Week 3 Term 2 - 6th May
Venue: All primary school Hockey will be played on Wednesday afternoons either at the McMillan Hockey Centre or Kings High School.
The competition runs for 14 weeks on a Wednesday, breaking for school holidays.
End date: August 19th 2026
Times will be dependent on team entry numbers, but we aim for 3.40pm-6pm.
Help with coaching and/or managing and/or umpiring a team is a necessity for us to enter teams. Please indicate on the registration form if you would be willing to coach or manage a team this year.Practices take place during school lunch times and announced in the daily notices at school.
Equipment: All players must have their own mouthguard, shin pads, stick and long socks. If you would like to loan a hockey stick from the school, please indicate this on the registration form.
Cost: per player is $68.00 (TBC we need a minimum of 7 players per team and this cost is based on 7 players per team).
Uniform: Sports uniforms are available at the school office to hire for the duration of the hockey competition ($20.00) or you can purchase a GSNS sports top for $32 and GSNS sports shorts (while we have them in stock) for $25.

Year 1&2 Train & Play
40 minute sessions
6-a-side ¼ turf

Each team is required to have a coach, manager, or parent helper involved in every session.
Otago Hockey will provide a trained coach who will work alongside your team’s adult helper during the first 20‑minute skills and training session.
The second 20‑minute session will be a small field game.
Year 3&4 Train and Play
40 minute sessions
6-a-side ¼ turf

Each team is required to have a coach, manager, or parent helper involved in every session.
Otago Hockey will provide a trained coach who will work alongside your team’s adult helper during the first 20‑minute skills and training session.
The second 20‑minute session will be a game, which will be umpired by Otago Hockey.
Year 5&6 Train and Play
40 minute sessions
6-a-side ¼ turf
2*20minute halves

Two levels are offered:
Developing
For players who are newer to hockey and are still building confidence and core skills.
Competitive
For players with more experience. This level suits teams that have played before and already have a solid basic understanding of the game.
Games are played as 2 × 20‑minute halves.
The Managers/Coaches of Year 5&6 teams will often need to umpire or share the umpiring of the games. Please ensure they have a whistle so as to make controlling games easier.
Parking:
As you will all be aware, the area is around the McMillan Centre is busy. Street parks outside the Pavilion are now time restricted which will hopefully make parking access easier. Please let your parents/caregivers/supporters know that the two Otago Hockey car parks are leased areas and are not available for parking.
Cancellations:
If a day needs to be cancelled due to weather conditions, I will email you all by midday and include a post on the Otago Hockey facebook page.
Otago Hockey Gear:
Hockey sticks are available for players that forget to bring a stick on a day aswell as for your Managers/Coaches so they can be active in the Training sessions.
Scores:
Game scores will be recorded to help with selection of balanced opposition teams each week.
Parents will need to take responsibility for transporting their child to and from the turf each week.
