Environmental Sciences & Geospatial Information Sciences
About Me
I am an environmental scientist specialized in Geospatial Information Science & Earth Observation. I received all my degrees in Geography: MA (2006) from Tel Aviv University and BA (1998), PhD (2016) from the the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Since 2017 I am a senior lecturer at the School of Environmental Sciences in the University of Haifa. My research interests are focused on studying the natural and human environments using Geospatial approaches and theories, GIScience (Geographic Information Science), earth observation and remote sensing. I am a member of the IGU GIScience committee and editorial board member in the ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information. My research was supported by the ISF (Israel Science Foundation), MOST (Ministry of Science & Technology), the Ministry of Energy, the Hydrological Authority of Israel and NKRCER (National Knowledge and Research Center for Emergency Readiness). I head the GIScience Environmental Lab and serve as an expert consultant for local and international academic projects as well as for firms and agencies in the public and private sectors.
Research Interests
Geospatial Information Science for studying the interplay between the human and natural environments
Spatial and temporal patterns associate with natural hazards and risks (e.g., earthquakes, floods and wildfire)
Development of GIScience (Geographic Information Science) approaches and geoanalytics tools
Earth observation & remote sensing for monitoring natural and human induced processes
Reconstruction of landscapes, cityscapes and historical scenes in conjunction with GeoAI
Spatial analysis of citizen science and VGI-based (Volunteered Geographic Information) datasets.
Digital mapping and methodologies for inspecting geographic networks and features relationships.
Cartography and the interrogation of cartographic material (e.g., maps, paintings, photographs and air photos).
