The Director

Michelle Mather grew up in Geneva, Ohio and graduated from Geneva High School. In December of 1999, she graduated from the University of Akron and received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a concentration in Vocal Music and in 2007 with a Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching. During college, Mrs. Mather sang with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. She started teaching music classes at Spencer and Krzic Elementary Schools in 2000 and began her Kodaly levels training. In 2005, Mrs. Mather started teaching high school choir and eventually found herself teaching at her alma mater, Geneva High School.

While Mrs. Mather has been at Geneva High School, the choirs have grown to over 100 members and are excelling, consistently receiving superior ratings at region and state festivals as well as first place rankings at competitions in New York City, Orlando, Annapolis, Sandusky and Cincinnati. International accreditation include a performance tour in Italy (Santa Maria Maggiore, Florence and St. Paul's Within the Walls, Rome as well as singing in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican) & Toronto, Canada.

Honored by Heidelberg University as an Outstanding Teacher in 2014, Chalkboard Teacher Recipient in 2005, and The Kendall Foundation Teacher of the Week in 2021, Mrs. Mather is known for enriching her student’s lives through song and is appreciated for her enthusiastic and artistic approach to choral music.

Mrs. Mather’s current teaching assignment includes Concert Choir, Bel Canto (treble voices), Canto Basso (bass voices), Geneva’s Image (show-choir) and middle school choir. Mather is a member of Ohio Music Educators Association and the National Association for Music Educators. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching English as a second language to students online and spending time with her spoiled dog and 5 fantastic grandchildren.
