The Ghana Gala is held every year by the Ghana Project. The Ghana Project is a cultural awareness and fundraising club here at SUNY Geneseo. Founded in 2009, the Ghana Project has raised money through events and donates directly to the Besease School and Agogo Hospital in Ghana. From this event alone we were able to raise over $1,000.
This is an annual two part event that I have helped create and maintain through the past two years. The first part is a campus-wide Clothing Drive. Either myself or one of my team members placed a box in each of the residence halls with posters and handouts. Then after a week we collected the boxes, cleaned the clothes, and moved them to a central location, the college union. The second part of this event is a Pop-Up Thrift Store. We then sell the clothing back to the college campus. All the money raised has gone to great causes like a Rochester refugee center and a program to help survivors of sex-trafficking. Each year we have put on this series events we have raised over $500.
