Week Twenty - January 14th 2022
Dear Primary School Parents,
We have successfully made it to the end of our period in remote learning. We thank everyone for their flexibility and their patience. I also send our gratitude to our students. I have popped into some lessons this week and am so impressed with you how engaged and responsible our PYP learners have been. This adversity and positive attitude will serve them well in all future endeavours.
Please ensure your child is returning ipads and cables that were collected from school (Gr1-3).
What to expect next week: We are welcoming all students back to campus. All health and safety protocols will be reviewed with students and followed stringently. All extra-curricular activities, PE classes, trips and events are placed on hold for January. We are however, moving forward with planning for February and hopeful that we will have a gradual return. We will do our best to make up activities where possible and understand that many expo trips have been impacted. Canteens are closed, however lunches can be ordered for classroom delivery.
We ask for your support as we navigate the next few weeks to ensure learning continues at its highest level, while maintaining the health and wellbeing of our community. Please pay close attention to your child each morning and keep them home if they seem unwell. Please contact our school clinic for advice around PCR testing and return to class.
Can my child choose to be in remote learning? At this time, we do not have permission to offer full remote learning as an alternative program. However any child that is in quarantine due to a positive covid result, close contact or covid 19 symptoms, will be given support to continue learning, while at home. Please refer to the details outlined below
Once again, welcome back and welcome to term 2! A friendly reminder about the change in the school week and please note the Friday timings. Please do check class pages for your child's term 2 schedule.

The first two weeks of this term saw a return to remote learning. Although it is not the ideal way we want to learn, there are some opportunities and advantages to highlight. Over the past two weeks, our learners in primary have demonstrated their ability to:
take more responsibility for their learning
organize themselves and their work areas at home
show resilience and commitment when things don't work as expected (IT)
use learned time-management skills to complete tasks
apply critical technology skills (logging-in, recording, video call, posting, etc)
show principled and caring behaviors during learning session (digital citizenship)
use technology as a tool to improve their learning!
Of course we would like to say a very big THANK YOU to all the parents and caregivers for the continued support and encouragement at home.
Two PYP students, Saara Oliju 5E & Sateena Hatk 4C have been selected to recite their poems in the Emirates Lit Fest competition. Congratulations to these young risk takers!
Email your child's homeroom teacher before 8am so that he / she can mark their absence as excused.
Complete an absence form for more than 2 days and submit to homeroom teacher on the child's first day back at school after absence.
Absence for more than 3 days requires doctors clearance (in some cases a medical certificate is requested )
Email the gis_primaryleaverequest@gemsedu.com and your child's homeroom teacher 48 hours in advance to ensure your child and their leave slip are prepared in advance.
At the time of collection, please come to the Primary Reception at Gate 4.
