Week Thirty Eight- June 30th 2021
It’s been a whirlwind of a year. The year 2020/21 has become an unforgettable year of incredible learning, growth and adaptation for staff, students, parents and leaders. We have learned many lessons about life, about school and about ourselves in the process of this year and we will certainly take courage from it.
Our community has approached each new challenge with optimism. I have been continuously proud and impressed with the attitude exhibited by our school community, coming together in mutual support. Students at every step have accepted, adapted and overcome obstacles to their routines. Our student leaders have been on a continuous mission to keep the “fun” alive in the PYP and ensure that students voices were present in all areas of school operation.
I may not be able to express in words my sincerest gratitude of working with such professional staff during this extraordinary year. They have remained focused and committed to the mission and core responsibility of academic, mental wellbeing and pastoral needs of students. Our whole community has been determined to provide the best learning experience possible for our students in a safe environment. Parents have been wonderfully supportive, understanding and patient as we wrestled with not only the pandemic, but also the changing regulations. It draws me back to the values and priorities we have as an IB world school including tolerance, appreciation, creativity, empathy and open minded.
Virtual assemblies, socially distanced sports day, plays and concerts, creative ways of collaboration, seamless transitions between remote to live… this is the year we thought the unthinkable and accomplished things that were once thought impossible! It is a year where “zoom” became a verb and was used in frequent daily conversations.
Enjoy your summer to all of our families! We look froward to welcoming you back in August!
Head of Primary
Oh how they have grown! On Monday of this week, we celebrated the end of PYP for our grade 5 students. We would like to congratulate families for this milestone accomplishment. As an IB school, the Primary Years Program starts at age 3 and continues on to age 11. This is a phenomenal period of growth and our grade 5 students have reflected on how much they have learned and grown as a student and as a person. The day involved a certificate ceremony, speeches with Mr Simon, Ms Kim and teachers, a few fun videos, and a small gift from the school (Photo booth and Celebration cookies). Class parents also offered a special lunch to congratulate the students on a successful year. We wish all of our grade 5 students and families all the best with their step up to middle school. They are ready!!
