Week Thirty Three - May 27th 2021
Head of Primary
It was with great pleasure we shared the grade 5 exhibition with parents and with the inner school community. The learning that was demonstrated by our students with encouragement from their teachers/mentors has gone far beyond our expectations. Please also take time to view the students websites. Congratulations to all those involved!
Next week, we are honored to welcome 6 members from the IB to GIS. The time has come for GIS to take part in a 5 year review of our IB programmes. We are proud of how the IB mission is carried out at our school and we look forward to getting feedback from the IB from their perspective. We will share findings with our community as soon as we receive the report.
We are in the process of creating class lists for next year. Please be aware that your child must be registered for the 2021/22 academic year to be placed in a class. A parent letter will be going home next week to explain the process of class allocation as we set our sights toward the 2021/22 academic year.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
Congratulations Grade 5! You all successfully completed the PYP Exhibition.
Grade 5 students have been sharing their PYP Exhibition journey, knowledge and understandings this week to the GIS Community. This is one of the best celebrations of learning that highlight the Primary Years Programme and make the GIS experience stand out from the crowd. It was such a pleasure to see all of the G5 parents attending the after school presentations this week, all of the G4 & G5 students visit their peers, and witness the collaboration across the school.
BIG THANK YOU to all who helped and supported this effort! You are all stars and make this programme the best IB experience in Dubai!
If you would like to know more about what the G5 students inquired into, please follow the QR code below that will navigate you to the group websites.
In Grade Two, students are exploring their How We Express Ourselves' unit, 'Art sends messages and shares perspectives.' Students have begun exploring the art elements, line and color. They created beautiful pieces of art to express their ideas. In math, students worked on developing their mental math skills as well as addition and subtraction with regrouping. This targets mathematical understanding in fluency as well as conceptual math. In English, they wrote descriptive paragraphs describing someone in the class.
The moment we’ve all been waiting for, June Arts Week is just around the corner! It encompasses all the PYP Arts: Drama, Visual Arts, and of course Music! Families will gather together during the evenings of this special week to watch student performances, and celebrate the creative work of our PYP students. Children have been composing music, reflecting on lyrics’ meaning, expressing themselves through singing and sign language, playing instruments, and dancing. The links for the concerts will be sent out shortly. For now, please save the date for your grade’s upcoming concerts (in poster below). See you there!
