Week two - September 10th 2020
Dear Parents,
In just the second week back at school, so much has been achieved, often behind the scenes. Our support staff, teachers and teaching assistants have all worked so hard to ensure a smooth start for our students. Many parents have commented on this and I am pleased to say that our official visitors this week were also impressed.
During a pandemic, it is clear that we must not lose sight of the high levels of health and safety on our campus. This week, I would like to thank Dr. Asiya and her medical team for giving parents, staff and students the very best service, from informed advice to clinical care. Dr. Asiya is in regular contact with the Dubai Health Authority and also meets with me regularly to convey crucial information and updates.
Our visitor from KHDA, Mr. Khalid, yesterday observed our entry procedures and visited our facilities, even looking at lessons taking place in our classrooms and sports hall. He said that there were no issues to report and everything was in very good order. Our students should be praised for their attitude, as Mr. Khalid was pleased to see how well they adhered to all the new rules.
Aside from health and safety, some excellent learning has also been taking place. I enjoyed meeting some of our youngest students, who were keen to tell me where they are from and the names of people in their families – this was all unprompted! I must commend our Early Years teachers and the children’s parents for instilling such confidence.
Other students who deserve praise are those who have welcomed new classmates to the school. They have been thoughtful and kind and certainly reflect the GIS values – well done.
Finally, it has been a colourful end to the week for our primary school, as the boys and girls, teachers and teaching assistants all wore their House colours to school (even at home remotely!) on Thursday. Mr Javier is certainly proud of his outfit, as you can see!
I hope your weekend is just as bright and fun.
Kind regards,
Simon Herbert

We have been delighted with the way that our community has adapted to the new pick up and drop off expectations. We have developed new habits swiftly and this has been largely due to our parents following our guidelines and being punctual at the beginning and end of the day; thank you!
Students should be picked up at the standard dismissal (2:30 or 2:40 - house dependent) OR the late dismissal at 3:30pm. It is not possible for us to manage pick up between these times. Families that are late for standard dismissal will be asked to wait until 3:30pm
NEW PROCEDURE!!!! - Very few families have required the late pick up so we have adjusted our protocols slightly to reduce the staffing pressures at late pick up. From Sunday - ALL late pick ups will take place from the main gate/reception and they will ALL take place at 3:30pm
