Week Five - September 28th, 2023
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
It was a pleasure to welcome some ‘little interviewers’ into my office this week! The wonderful KG2 children were gaining insights into their school, and I was on their list of those to interview. Questions ranged from ‘How old are you?’, ‘What is your Job’, to ‘What do you like most about your job?’, ‘Which country are you from?’ and ‘What is your favorite food?’ I hope I managed to answer satisfactorily, as they were very persistent interviewers!
I would like to thank Ms Sarah McLean for representing GIS so well at a Parents United Book Club event, for nursery and primary families. Ms Sarah gave a presentation on tips and advice for reading with children, which was so popular that Which Schools Advisor Senior Editor, Ms Susan Roberts, wrote an editorial on the subject based on Ms Sarah’s input.
Ms Anrie, our Eco-environment and Sustainability Coordinator, took students to a tree planting event hosted by GEMS Legacy school on Friday, 22nd September at the Tadweer Waste Treatment Center. Well done to all GIS students involved, for planting 54 saplings on that day!
Traffic update: I am pleased to say that our survey, in which the vast majority of parents voted to change the school timings by fifteen minutes, has been approved. The timings changes will come into effect as soon as RTA complete the works on the exit road. I have written to you in a separate letter on this. I will also send a letter with maps, new drop-off and pick-up plans as soon as possible.
Finally, the highlight of the week has been the celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday, Eid-e-Milad an-Nabi. Ms Nomah, Ms Rasha and our Islamic Departments, along with many students and our Arabic colleagues, celebrated in such a wonderfully inclusive way, giving everyone insights into the values and teachings of the Prophet. We are grateful for the time and effort dedicated by so many at GIS to making the day special.
The closing date has been extended to Monday, 2nd October. We look forward to seeing what our students create.
The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
