Students Investigate Bouncing Balls
On Monday, May 20th, our Grade 10 students conducted an engaging lab investigation on the physics of bouncing balls. This hands-on activity enhanced their understanding of key scientific concepts and fostered teamwork and independent inquiry.
Each group developed unique research questions, such as how drop height affects bounce height, the comparison of different types of balls, the impact of various surfaces, and how temperature changes influence bounce height. Students then designed and implemented methodologies to gather data. For example, one group examined drop height vs. bounce height, while another compared different types of balls. Other groups studied the effects of surface material and temperature on bounce height.
Students recorded their data meticulously, performing multiple trials for accuracy. Preliminary findings showed that higher drop heights and harder surfaces lead to higher bounces, and material properties and temperature conditions significantly affect bounce behavior.
This investigation provided valuable experience in scientific research, from hypothesis development to data analysis, while also strengthening teamwork and problem-solving skills. We congratulate all students on their hard work and enthusiasm and look forward to their detailed lab reports which will be used for grading them for Criteria B and C.

Summary of learning and/or celebrations from the week
"In this unit about art, students explore different ways to communicate abstract thinking through a variety of creative and expressive techniques and choices. Grade 8 had to express their feelings and emotions in drawings while listening to the French song 'Les Enfants de la Terre (Children of the Earth'". "I was impressed by their creative thinking and artistic skills. All of them felt the same emotion and feeling, which is 'unity and love'.
