Week Twenty - February 9th, 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Welcome home to all of our weary Week without Walls travellers. Students from all international, residential and local trips returned in recent days, tired but very happy. I have had the pleasure of chatting to some students at this stage, and it appears that they had a wonderful time. We had students visit Madrid, London, Gstaad, Paris and Barcelona, as well as RAK and Abu Dhabi. Students scuba dived, cooked, bounced, swam and also trained to save lives.
The busyness continued at school with students showcasing their artistic talents through visual and culinary arts. Mr Harry and I had the pleasure of taste testing the gastronomic delights yesterday, and I must say, we were extremely impressed with the level of talent and creativity in each dish.
Other students acted as entrepreneurs this week, designing products and creating marketing plans to help ‘sell’ their goods. Today, this activity culminated in a Dragon’s Den where students pitched their product to a select group. There were some amazing items put forward, but my favourite has to be the AI mirror!
Similarly, some students worked through a Community Project where they researched a variety of initiatives, collaborated and, again, presented their findings to staff and other students today.
This year was the first year that we introduced internships to Grade 10 & 11 students. This was an extremely popular programme with over 70 students taking up the opportunity to participate. Students attended various businesses across Dubai, getting a taste for what life is like after study. The feedback from those involved has been very positive and we aim to grow the internship programme year upon year.
While all of the above activities have been taking place, Grade 12 students., recently returned from exams, spent the week in class and also working on their Group 4 project, a project which saw one group produce their very own sunscreen! Impressive.
As you can appreciate, all of the above required countless hours of planning and organization before the week commenced; and tireless effort throughout the week. Many staff dedicated 24 hours a day to ensure that students were exposed to opportunities rarely presented to them; that they were well fed; and enjoying themselves. Every single staff member played a part in ensuring that this week was a success and I thank each and everyone of them.
And on that note, a reminder that next week is our mid-term break. Everyone has the opportunity to rest and recuperate, ensuring that they are refreshed and ready to return to school on Feb 19th.
Have a wonderful weekend and break.
Kind regards
Amanda Murphy
Head of Secondary
