Week Nineteen - February 2nd, 2024
Dear Parents,
I am so proud this week of our Grade 10 students, who have produced the most impressive Personal Projects. There are simply too many students to mention by name, but I was so pleased with each and every one, as they all showed ingenuity, imagination, innovation and reflection. Projects ranged from websites on fitness, in-depth guidance on ADHD, braille on a piano keyboard and sheet music to allow blind people to learn the piano, a natural hand sanitizer, desserts for those with eating disorders, origami to elicit energy saving, and even a telescope. Learning goals and also the IB ‘Approaches to Learning’ skills were evident throughout. I would like to thank all parents who supported the Exhibition, our PP supervisors and particularly Ms Sandy as MYP Coordinator and Ms Sangita as Personal Project Coordinator. Ms Amanda and I will be talking to the students soon about the wider impact of their projects, beyond school, because we think that these brilliant ideas can lead to even greater impact.
Thank you to the parents who have re-enrolled your child(ren) for next year. Year groups will fill faster than usual and we do not want any current families to miss out, so please don’t delay. As I was chatting to a long-term parent today, I realized that there may be some families who have not seen our latest enhancements or know of our plans, such as the new Primary Hub or our Space Lab in Secondary. I would be willing to take any parent on a swift tour of some new highlights and answer questions about any aspect of the school. Please let Ms Helen (pre_gis@gemsedu.com) know and she will arrange.
A nod in the direction of our GISPA team, who are working towards International Day. Please don’t hesitate to volunteer - we have 99 countries represented at GIS, so why let yours go unnoticed – I promise to sample any food that is brought!
On the subject of nationalities, we reached our 99th recently! We are so pleased to welcome Paola, Diana and Meraly to GIS from Equatorial Guinea. In the photo you can see twins Paola and Dayana celebrating the arrival of their flag.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
