Week Fifteen- December 9th 2022
Dear Parents,
It has been a wonderful final week of the term at GIS. Events, performances, decorations, food treats, festivities, sports competitions and much more in amongst the learning!
Each morning, as many of you will have heard, there has been music in the main reception lobby. My thanks to all students, staff and parents who have taken part and of course Ms Caroline and Mr Javier for organizing. It has been a perfect start to each day.
The highlight of the week was our amazing Winterfest. My thanks to Ms Amanda, our Facilities Team all parents, staff and students involved for a wonderful occasion. The student stalls and all the musical performances were first rate. Huge numbers attended and the community spirit was running high. It was a lovely way to round off the long term.
Our Tareeqi pathway students excelled themselves through their creativity, preparing a range of interesting goods to sell. I bought a beautiful plant, and enjoyed the sales techniques involved!
Sport has played a large part of the week. Our swim squads were celebrated by Ms Hadeel and it was good to see such support for this popular sport at GIS. I was particularly pleased to see the students so happy for each other’s successes.
On the subject of sport, our students relish a sporting fixture against the staff and this week we saw both cricket and football matches played out in a really friendly yet competitive way. The results fell in favour of the staff this year, although the crowd seemed to enjoy both occasions!
We also enjoyed a special event this week organized by Mr Barry. On Monday evening, a big screen was set up in the outdoor amphitheater and students, parents and staff were able to share a World Cup atmosphere while watching Japan v Croatia. We are grateful to Mr Ranjit and our Facilities Team for making this possible and Mr Barry for the idea of bringing the community together. The game ended in penalties and Mr Shunske was not happy but otherwise a very successful event!
It remains for me to thank you for your ongoing support for GIS and to wish you a restful holiday with your families, and safe travels if you are not staying in Dubai.
Kind regards,
Simon Herbert

This week saw two of our football teams top their league after winning their final fixtures. Our U12 boys football team had a 6-1 against DIA Emirates Hills to maintain a 100% in what was a flawless season. They finished the season 6 points clear of 2nd place with a staggering goal difference of +21.
On Wednesday our U11 boys took on Sunmarke in a top of the table clash with the winner of the fixture topping the league. After a great battle our boys came out on top with a 1-0 victory, however our boys did not know they had won the league until Mr. Alan told them after the game leading to jubilant celebrations.
Congratulations to all Jaguar members this term in what was a very successful season. Almost all of our teams competed in higher divisions than we have in the past, with all teams holding their own if not excelling as our sports program continues to grow and develop.
