Our youngest learners in Pre K have been busy exploring their theme "Who We Are". They have inquired into themselves, the people around them and how they are the same of different. Learners explored physical characteristics of our bodies, observing using mirrors, using photographs and drawing their own observations of others. They have been busy creating portraits of their different family members and describing what they like to do with them. Our learners have been inquiring into how they use their bodies, balancing, climbing, moving in different ways, riding bikes and playing with balls. They have been developing their fine motor skills through sand exploration, small object play and mark making using paint, markers, pencils, chalk and other materials. They have developed their counting skills, singing songs, counting different objects, practice 1:1 correspondence. Students have been developing their social skills, making friends with others, taking turns and managing their feelings.
Shatakshi A (3A) and Kiaan R (3B), recited their poems at the Poetry for All Competition held this week at Al Mawakeb school, Al Kawaneej in the ages 8–13 category. Their performances in front of 4 judges and an audience, were flawless, and both remarked afterwards how much they had enjoyed the experience! We hope that next year more GIS students will participate in all the exciting competitions offered by the annual Emirates Airlines Festival of Literacy.
