Week One - August 29th, 2025
Dear GIS Secondary Families,
The start of a new school year always carries with it a sense of possibility. We imagine the growth that will take place, the challenges our students will rise to, and the countless opportunities for them to shine both in and out of the classroom.
After just one week, our halls are alive with energy, laughter, and purposeful learning. It has been a genuine pleasure to meet so many of you at morning drop-off, and I look forward to continuing to build those connections in the weeks ahead. Seeing our students reconnect with old friends, welcome new classmates, and engage with their teachers has been a wonderful reminder of the strong community spirit that defines GIS.
We also know that transitions - whether into a new grade, a new programme, or a new school - can bring both excitement and uncertainty. Please be assured that our teachers, advisors, and leadership team are here to support every student as they settle in and find their rhythm. Already this week, in advisory and classroom sessions, I have seen students working together, reflecting on our school values, and setting the tone for the year ahead. While not everyone will be best friends, we expect every student to be a great teammate, showing respect, collaboration, and kindness in all they do.
As part of this, I want to remind families of some of our expectations that help create a culture of focus and pride: students should be in full school uniform each day, and we ask for your support in ensuring this is upheld. We recognise that some uniform items may still be in the process of being purchased please can I ask that you keep your child’s advisor informed if that is the case. In addition, headphones and mobile phones should not be visible during class or in the corridors, so that learning time and social interaction remain at the centre of our school day.
Looking ahead, I encourage you to save the date for our Secondary Back to School Day on September 18th. This event will give you the chance to meet your child’s advisory teacher, learn more about our units of learning and pathways, and gain insight into how we will partner together to ensure your child thrives this year.
As we move beyond the busyness of the first few days, I am filled with optimism for what lies ahead. With your trust, our shared commitment, and the passion of our students, I have no doubt that this will be a year of growth, discovery, and accomplishment for all.
Kind regards,
Aaron
