About the artist - Desiree Alexis Roy
Desiree’s practice deals with the theme of identity and how it can be shaped through our relationship to land, body, and family lineage. Her work is influenced by her experiences as a woman, through the rediscovery of her family’s mixed settler and Métis heritage, and by her upbringing in the small town of Salmon Arm, BC.
In 2016 Desiree completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of British Columbia, and has since returned back to Salmon Arm to continue growing her practice. She has been grateful for the opportunity work with the Kamloops School District, and has enjoyed the creative experience of working more within the medium of illustration.
Desiree would like to acknowledge that she currently lives and and is working on unceded and traditional Secwepemc territory.
