COACHES NEEDED - Athletics 2023/24
Brocklehurst Secondary School is always looking for passionate and qualified coaches for many of our sports teams to help bolster our coaching staff this year. Please email Ashley Lowndes at alowndes@sd73.bc.ca if you're interested in helping out this year.
Documents and Resources
All documents that coaches will need through the season have been provided in a Google Folder Including templates for data collection, rosters, etc..
The coaches package is a SD #73 document that provides a checklist for the coaches to use before, during, and after the season.
The Teacher Sponsor document contains information that explains the role of a teacher sponsor.
All coaches need to complete online concussion training every two years in order to be permitted to coach (45 minutes to complete).
Each year, community coaches (non-SD73 employees) need to complete a criminal record check. A written letter from the Principal must be acquired and brought to the RCMP (see AD about acquiring one) and a criminal record check form must be completed.
If you are planning on driving any child other than your own during the season to or from games tournaments, or practices, you are required to sign this form. This form can be used by both coaches and parents/guardians. This form needs to be updated each year.
The old adage of RICE after an injury has changed. The new acronym for dealing with an injury is PEACE and LOVE. Click on the button for details.
CODE OF ETHICS FOR COACHES
I will consider the health of my players, not use anyone who is sick or injured, and refer to a competent physician all evident physical or organic defects.
I will try to integrate my philosophy of athletics with the general philosophy of education and encourage desirable attitudes and values in my athletes that they may become aware of the role of athletics in education.
I will conduct myself so as to be a credit to the educational profession; and encourage greater player and spectator sportsmanship.
Whereas I will strive to win, I will also attempt to be graceful in losing; I will be modest in victory and gracious in defeat.
I will respect officials, compliment them on a good job, and level protests at them only through regular and approved channels.
I will treat visiting teams, coaches, and officials as guests.
I will wholeheartedly maintain good relations with other coaches and defend those of the profession who are unjustly attacked.
I will establish coach/player relationships on the basis of mutual respect and
confidence.
I will strive to maintain cordial and cooperative relations with the school administration and staff.
