Summary

The Project ”Let's learn from one another! ” is going to be implemented by a partnership consisting of six schools from different countries - Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Turkey, Portugal and Greece. All of the partners are state general education schools.

Our project's context is Natural sciences, Mathematics, technology and engineering. The main objective of our project is to improve the performance of both the students and teachers involved either directly or indirectly in this project in various fields of school. The aim of the project is to foster students' interest and curiosity to the curriculum so that they would understand it and would be able to use it in their future. By involving students in the process of the creation of teaching materials we expect them to create understandable, high quality and innovative materials that will take advantage of the modern ICT tools and appear on non-traditional platforms. 

In general, we expect the project to be an extremely stimulating and developing experience for the students that will change their attitudes and perception of the world, develop analytical thinking and abilities to search for, analyse and use information, work in teams and individually, gain more self-confidence in becoming more active and conscious members of their local communities and nations. We, teachers, will guide our students rather than just give them everything ready processed.

It will be a two-year project. We are going to carry out six (6) LTT -meetings. Four students and two teachers from each country will join these meetings. In addition to the meetings, we'll work a lot between the meetings to prepare for the forthcoming meetings and evaluate and disseminate the learning materials, aids we produced. Besides our own school communities, we will put great emphasis on the other institutions operating in our area. Our aim is to share our products with as many students and colleagues who are not directly involved in the project as possible.

We are planning to employ a complex approach to natural sciences in our project. We have chosen very broad topics for our project meetings: water, air, forests, plants and the sea. These big topics will be dealt with from different aspects of natural sciences. Our purpose with this is to make the students understand that although the natural phenomena are studied in different subjects at school but they are one principle in the reality. We would like to draw the students' attention to the unity , beauty and logic of nature that surrounds us and fundamentally determines our existence. Moreover, by working together with the representatives from different countries we are going to raise awareness of the primary importance of natural science education in the 21st century: the significance of natural values and their protection and also what role can science play in the professional career of the secondary school students. 

We are planning to create the following products: virtual and printed guide books and worksheets, presentations including thought-provoking and interesting researches on the different principles of our topics and we will provide detailed and clear explanations on what we can see, why we can see it and how to explain what we see and what primarily practical significance it has on our lives. To achieve this, we are going to apply various kinds of activities, such as workshops, group work, competitions, exhibitions, collaboration with other institutions like other schools in our localities, culture centres, museums, research centres, companies and factories. The activities are aimed not only to create the products, but most of all to form attitudes of leadership, to teach teamwork skills and ability to perform well in new situations and to cooperate with people of different backgrounds. The methodologies that we will carry out are: inquiry-based learning approach, Question-answer, discussion, brainstorming, hands-on method and place-based education to ensure active involvement of the students in the activities. The project is student centred, both in terms of our aims and the students’ involvement in almost all project activities at all stages - from preparation to evaluation and dissemination of its results.

To sum up, each school will make use of the experience it has gained by making modifications in the curricula and building in the learning materials, extracurricular activities, the new methodological concepts and practices, the newly gained contacts and forms of cooperation with the external institutions. We strongly believe that with the help of this project each participating institution will be able to carry out a vast development in the instruction of natural sciences. This will enable us to increase the popularity, efficiency and effectiveness of the scientific subjects thus contribute to the preparation of our students for a successful carrier and a balanced life lived under the common European values.
