MSE Mathematics, MSE Special Education: Gifted, Talented, & Creative, BSE Mathematics
I decided I wanted to be a teacher in the 4th grade. I had the greatest teachers at Woodrow Wilson Elementary and I looked up to them so much. It wasn’t until I experienced Mr. Charles Nelson as my 11th grade Pre-Calculus teacher that I knew exactly what kind of teacher I wanted to be. I wanted to make sure that I gave students the same safe, comfortable, and welcoming learning environment that he gave us on a daily basis. I graduated from Paragould High School in 2002 and went on to Arkansas State University to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Education: Mathematics in December of 2005. I taught one semester at Westside High School and then went on to teach at Marmaduke High School for eleven years before I started teaching at Greene County Tech High School in the fall of 2017. In the time that I spent teaching at Marmaduke, I taught every single math class that is offered in Arkansas at some point. Most school years I had 5 different preps in a day ranging from 8th graders to seniors. I also served as a Junior Class Sponsor, Senior Class Sponsor, Yearbook Advisor, and Concurrent Credit Site Coordinator. I had a lot of responsibilities there and still managed to earn two master's degrees. I graduated from ASU with a Master’s of Science in Education, Special Education: Gifted, Talented, and Creative in December of 2007 and then again in August of 2014 with a Master’s of Science in Education: Mathematics. Ultimately, I just wanted to be able to get my students concurrent credit for the work they were doing in my class. In addition, the Master’s in Math allowed me to teach at night at ASU Paragould for several years until it closed. I came to be an Eagle in 2017 and have felt right at home ever since. I absolutely love my job here and look forward to starting a new school year. In all the years and schools that I have taught, I have met so many different kinds of kids and they have all impacted me greatly. I love them all so much and I feel like they all carry a little piece of me around with them.
As much as I love being a teacher, the most important jobs in my life are wife and mom. I have been married to my husband Brad since 2003. I met him when I was 14 and dated him for 4 ½ years before we got married. We have grown up together and had many adventures, but our greatest accomplishments are our kids. We have a 10 year old little girl, Cady Mae and an 8 year old little boy, Layne who both go to school at GCT. We like to go fishing, hunting, four-wheeler riding, and camping at Maddox Bay. We have a dog, Roscoe and a horse, Doc. We also spend a lot of time with Cady Mae at her gymnastics meets. She works out 12 hours a week and I teach at the gymnastics center part-time after school to help pay for her tuition. When I’m not teaching, chasing after my two kids, cleaning up after a big hairy dog, scooping stalls at the barn, trying to run a household, or at gymnastics, I like to sew. As you can see, I don’t get as much time to do that anymore, but I try. I also love music and love to sing which I do daily in the car, in the shower, as I cook, and sometimes during class when I just can’t get a tune out of my head.

A few years ago, I begin to really feel led to work in Special Education in the public school system. After an internal battle to return to college, I applied and was accepted into the Master of Arts (MAT) program at Arkansas State University for Special Education, K-12. I began the journey of completing my second Master's in January of 2019. I will graduate with my MAT in Special Education in 2021. I am currently licensed in the state of Arkansas as both a special education teacher and a licensed master level therapist. I plan to maintain licensure in both professions and am extremely passionate about serving and helping my community. I accepted my first teaching position in April of 2019 at Greene County Tech and absolutely loved my first year as a teacher during the 2019-20 school year. I currently teach Resource English and Science at the high school.
