Our goal is to expose Greene County students to creative and unique scenarios in which they must think quickly to complete a task while maintaining composure and using essential life and leadership skills. The challenges students will have to face directly correlate with expectations of behavior in a professional or workplace environment. Competitions like this will help students develop the skills that they need to succeed as the next generation of leaders in our communities and businesses.

Have you ever had to give a toast at a wedding or celebration? No? You may be asked to give a toast some day, so here's what you do:
Hold your glass out and up to eye level. Look at the person/people you are toasting.
You should be short and specific with your toast- 2 to 3 sentences. Example: "I would like to give a toast to Marty and Ashley. Your love for each other is evident to all who see. May you have many years of happiness."
End your toast with "To Marty and Ashley!" The other guests should repeat you and then you all drink a sip together.
Table Manners and Etiquette
Chew with your mouth closed.
Keep your smartphone off the table and set to silent or vibrate. Wait to check calls and texts until you are finished with the meal and away from the table.
Hold utensils correctly. Don’t use your fork or spoon like a shovel or stab your food.
Wash up and come to the table clean. Don’t groom or attend to hygiene at the table.
Remember to use your napkin. It should go in your lap when not in use and only on the table when you are completely finished with the meal.
Wait until you’re done chewing to sip or swallow a drink.
Pace yourself with fellow diners. Cut only one piece of food at a time.
Avoid slouching and don’t place your elbows on the table while eating.
Instead of reaching across the table for something, ask for it to be passed to you.
Bring your best self to the meal. Take part in the dinner conversation.

This competition is inspired by the competition held at The Ron Clark Academy (RCA) in Atlanta, Georgia, every year.
Greene County students have competed in the National and Global Amazing Shake competitions for the past 5 years.
We would love to send our 7th Grade Ambassadors from each middle school to compete.

What is the Amazing Shake?
Years ago, a teacher working in a rural area realized his students were attending scholarship interviews but never getting past the interview round. He decided to hold mock interviews and immediately saw the issue. He needed to teach his students to give a proper handshake and how to present themselves in the best possible light to make those great first impressions. Not only that, he realized that he needed to model how to have formal conversations and give presentations. Mr. Ron Clark, co-founder of The Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, has inspired many teachers to do the same and be champions for their students by molding and preparing them, and to provide the students with the tools and soft skills to be successful in any chosen field.
