5th grade will follow NYS Next Generation ELA Learning Standards. Our ELA program is Scholastic Literacy.

This year we will:

• read varied genres of literature using informational & literary text

• respond to literature

• develop comprehension skills

• expand vocabulary (word study) and grammar skills 

• practice oral reading

• grow our listening skills

• write an opinion, narrative, explanatory, persuasive, and short research assignments by planning, editing, revising, & publishing  

• conduct guided reading groups with leveled texts
