GMS Program Overview & Feedback Survey

2017-2018

Current Program Overview and Feedback

In an effort to collect feedback from parents and guardians of Gowanda Middle School students, we are asking you to complete the following survey regarding current program, systems, and future proposals. Your feedback will serve as data points to further justify what we maintain, change, or discontinue from our strategic school design.

Check and Connect Advisory

Students begin each day in a small homeroom where students work with an assigned adviser with no more than 8-10 of their classmates.

  • Increased contact time with a teacher to check in on academics/behavior/organization
  • Less hall traffic and "free" time

Grab and Go Breakfast:

Two breakfast kiosks are located on both floors where students pick up breakfast and eat in their advisories.

  • Less wasted time in cafeteria
  • Allows all students access to breakfast in a short time

Communications:

A quarterly GMS newsletter, Schoology postings, Special Event Mailings distributed in Check and Connect Advisory, an Open-Door Policy, Remind App notifications, increased Social Media postings .

Progress Monitoring Goal :

The number one goal of GMS this school year has been to assure we are committed to having students and their families know precisely where they are at academically at each checkpoint of the school year (every 5 weeks), with extensive communications and scheduled intervention meetings for those most at risk.

Panther Pride Character Education:

A series of Character Education/Anti-Bullying Presenters (Fran Kick, Darryl Tonemah,Box Out Bullying, Chris Poulos), Panther Pride School Culture Building activities, weekly Random Acts of Kindness prize winners, and monthly Panther Pride prize winners.

1:1 Technology Initiative:

All students in grades 5-8 have access to their own personal chromebook. At the midpoint of the school year, grades 7 and 8 were allowed to take home their chromebooks.

Schoology :

Teachers moved to using Schoology as the central communication source for posting assignments, class documents, lesson goals, and daily grades. Parents are able to sign up for scheduled email progress updates.

iReady :

Continued use of iReady as a support program for personalized growth in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Parent Pick Up/Drop Off :

GMS students have used the faculty parking entrance for drop off instead of having to cut through busses and for dismissal, students are picked up at the high school.
