I invented MusicGo to bridge the gap between two groups I often witness missing out on each other and because I wanted to solve a problem I personally have faced in my life. I wanted to create a website which would allow you to hear accessible, local, live music in New York City at the press of a button. MusicGo allows you to do that. It was very important for me to invent an idea for a website that would fulfill a need or solve a problem no matter how small or large that problem may seem. To me, and to many New Yorkers, live music is very important. Live music brings people together and connects people of all different backgrounds who may have not otherwise connected.
Initial Hurdles and essential questions:
App vs. Website?
In the end, I ended up making MusicGo a website (hypothetically) because I felt that a website is an easier platform for people to understand and access. At the end of the day, that is what MusicGo is all about - accessibility and connectivity.Â
New York City or beyond?
For the initial plans of this website, I decided to keep it contained to New York City. In a different scenario, where I launched this website into the real world I would like to make it work on a larger scale. However, for the purposes of this march madness project, I felt that keeping it more manageable and just in the New York City area would work best.
Business Model:
Only free music events?
At first, I considered only accommodating free music on my website. This would mean free events in coffee shops or outdoor local musicians performing in places like central park or in outdoor venues. However, when I looked at the live music taking place in New York City, the majority of it has a fee. What I am trying to do is source live music taking place where the entry fee or ticket price is minimal and where most people could easily access the concert or live music event.
How do we narrow down the artists on a scale of how well known they are?
While MusicGo may sometimes post ads featuring well known artists performing around the city, it is more likely that MusicGo would feature listings for artists who are hidden gems in a city full of talent yet to be discovered.
How do we verify restaurants and musicians who are posting ads on MusicGo?
Restaurants who post ads seeking musicians on MusicGo will be cleared and checked before they can publish their listing or hire a musician. There is also a contract that must be signed to ensure a safe transaction of business between both parties.
Non/For Profit?
My current plan would be to have MusicGo be a website which makes it's money by being a reliable source of discovering events. Once you have discovered the event you are interested in attending, MusicGo will reroute you to one of our ticket vender affiliates who you can then buy your tickets from. If that particular ticket vender is not supplying tickets for that event because of a scale issue, MusicGo will reroute you to the direct website of the event or venue in order for you to plan your live music excursions without fuss or hassle.
For musicians and restaurants who would like to post ad's on our website; there will be a small monthly fee to keep your ad up on MusicGo. If you do not have interest in keeping your "listing" up on our website you can end your subscription and your listing will be automatically removed the next month.
