I have learned a lot about recording and mixing throughout this project. While recording, I explored recording techniques surrounding mic placement and mixing of old and new technology. In the mixing portion of the project, I learned how to use software that was completely new to me, Logic. I learned how to use this through YouTube tutorials and by talking to experts. I also learned a lot about the details of drum recording such as tuning, micing, and overlaying tracks.Â
While I have learned a lot about recording and mixing techniques throughout this process, the most valuable information I have taken away is about how I learn and work. I have learned that I work very differently on creative projects than on academic ones. When working on academic projects, I like to create a thorough outline before I begin my work. Throughout this project, I learned that when it comes to creative work, I am better at creating as I go as opposed to planning ahead. I like to record ideas as they come and make edits as I see fit in order to expand on the idea. While I like to do all of my work at one time in academic projects, I learned that in creative projects, I can only do a little bit of work at a time. This is because I find creative work very mentally draining and can only work for short periods of time to avoid burnout.
