Driving Question: How can we combat the way teens access information, specifically with content feeding?
From early on in the process, I could not decide on an idea to pursue, so instead I used time to conduct business research. I started with reading entrepreneurship books. I learned about the qualities of entrepreneurs and made it my goal to work towards gaining discipline, creativity, and willpower. Throughout the entire process, I continued to develop these qualities and use them in my daily life. I eventually conducted an interview in which I learned more about starting a business, but I was still bouncing around ideas.
After the interview, I reflected and wrote "So far, I want to expand on my idea of creativity and problem-solving but implement it in a practical way that would appeal to people my age. I learned a lot in my expert group and I am excited to put that new knowledge into use. An entrepreneur is more of a state of mind than a person that just has a million ideas." I ended up choosing to create an app that could connect the student body while also promoting genuine connections and steering away from the content feeding we are used to as teens.
After my idea was finalized, I began developing the logistics of my business which including coming up with the name and designing a logo. I was ready to design a prototype for the user interface of the application. The design process was very tedious as it was my first time using such a tool. I learned a lot about app design in the process and had to redo, change, and delete many parts. I implemented feedback from friends, teens, and adults. As I was finalizing the prototype for the app, I was ready to move back to the business side of my project which included writing a business proposal and pitch deck about my product.
