Think of a topic, what will it look like? feel like? What ideas do you want to convey?
How will you do so? Will there be music? Human - Characters. Create a story.
Begin to explore the designs, looks and dimensions of the things you want to create. Look up references for both objects and people. Teach yourself the steps that you still do not know.
Begin Creating! Start modeling your figures in a 3D space. Most common sites for this is Blender, Maya, and ZBrush. There are two main types of modeling: Poly-Modeling and Sculpting.
Poly modeling is the creation, of new vertices, while moving, scalling, rotating
Sculpting is the pushing and pulling vertices to create shapes. Allows for very detailed models.
You can add joints, connecting them as parents and children. The children follow the movement of the parent. Similar to your arms, as you rotate your elbow your forearm
Now assign materials (to create accurate light reflection) and apply textures. To correctly texture an object or character one must "unwrap" the asset into a flat configuration. (Will add picture when I get to this step)
Now you combine your assets into one scene, scaling them to make sure they make sense at the scale of the scene. (Will add picture when I get to this step)
Create key frames for significant movement. If the computer knows an object will be here on a certain frame and where it will eventually move, it will fill in all the frames in between. This allows animators not to have to go frame by frame. (Will add picture when I get to this step)
After completing all of the characters movement, begin to render every-frame. Carefully position the camera to view what you want to be in frame. You can add distinct lighting and filters to create the look and feel you want. (Will add picture when I get to this step)
Gather all of the frames into your chosen video editor. Now begin postproduction, adding sounds, visual effects, and color grading. (Will add picture when I get to this step)
Once you're happy with the cut, its done! Share your animation and submit it to film festivals! (Will add picture when I get to this step)
