Rhyming Activities with
GC's 2022 "Teacher of the Year"
Amy Swartz, Fourth Grade Special Education Teacher at Greenfield Intermediate School shares, "Rhyming is important because it teaches children about language. Rhyming teaches word families and the sounds of language. It develops phonological awareness skills such as the ability to notice and work with the sounds. It also helps develop phonemic awareness skills. These skills lead to reading and writing development."
Quick Tips for Road Trips
Alphabet Scavenger Hunt: While in the car or on a walk, search for items that start with each letter of the alphabet and then practice the sounds that letter makes. For example, the letter "c" as in "cake". The letter "c" can make the /k/ sound as in "cake" or the /s/ sound as in "city".
