We typically use Hill's Music Shoppe in Henderson, NC for our rentals. To the right is the rental flyer which is also linked to their rental website. If you are currently borrowing an instrument from the school, we highly recommend renting an instrument so you can keep it over the summer and take it with you wherever you go.
While I do highly recommend you practice over the summer to keep up your stamina, you have multiple options for your instruments.
If you borrow from the school, your instrument MUST be RETURNED before the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. School instruments cannot be kept over the summer.
If you have purchased your instrument or rent from somewhere other than Hill's, you can keep your instrument over the summer or contact your rental company to see what their recommendations are.
If renting from Hill's, you have options:
“Keep Leasing ” If your child plans to play next year, select this option, DO NOTHING! A portion of your monthly rental payments will continue to be applied toward the purchase of your instrument and the entire time you are leasing your instrument, you remain under the Repair and Maintenance Plan to protect your instrument.
“Step - Up” Is your student ready to 'Graduate to the Next Level'? Talk to your Band Director to see if this is a good next step for your student. And then email us for information. You have the option of continuing to lease or take advantage of some great specials and 0% Interest Financing! Remember you can transfer your rental credits to an upgrade.
“Purchase Buy-Out” Apply your current rental credits (rental fee portion so far) towards the purchase of your instrument, or upgrade to a new or intermediate instrument according to the terms of your contract. Email Hill’s Music Shoppe to find out what your options are in regards to a Lease Buy-Out Discount or Trade.
Do Not leave your instrument at Hawley over the summer unless you are sending the instrument in for a summer cleaning. All instruments rented from Hill's will be returned to Hill's once summer begins regardless of plans. Instruments left over the summer at Hawley that are not rentals or purchases from Hill's risk critter invasion as I will not be in my room for most of the summer.
If you are keeping your instrument over the summer and wish to practice, please see the steps below:
Practice old exercises in the book or old music! There are YouTube videos to practice with if you want to play along with the concert music and there are links to the exercises in the GREEN book. Link to the book are to the right as well as the YouTube playlist of all music we have played at Hawley since I began.
Look up free music to practice on sites like MuseScore or NoteFlight! It's great to expand your knowledge and keep playing. Click their logos to the Right to check them out.
Try something new in the book. The GREEN book has links to recordings of the exercises but the YELLOW book does not. You can still try to read through some of it.
Check out the video links at the top of the page to see how to play and make beginning sounds.
