GUided Learning Experiences

(GLE)

What is a GLE?

Learning modules are an integral part of medical education and continuing medical education.

There are many strategies for learning module design.

Our design provides learning points within a narrative structure that encourages reflection, curiosity, and retention. With objectives rooted in literature reviews, our content also communicates and reinforces this rigorous academic material through innovative learning platforms in multiple learning modalities.

In addition to peer-reviewed resources, we use films, news sources, and podcasts to provide immersive experiences that give a holistic sense of medical contexts. We also elevate the voices and stories of community members so as to impart community-based knowledge. This process includes employing community members to consult on curriculum design and assigning community-generated content to our learners.

Our Rural Pathway learning outcomes and goals relate to specific, evidence-based knowledge and a conscientious understanding of the dynamic communities in the unique geographies we serve.

Our program has designed these Guided Learning Experiences, or GLEs, as the core method for our content delivery because they offer an immersive experience in the network of cultural, medical, sociological, and other determinants of health in the places our residents rotate.

Our GLEs also encourage and refine the critical thinking skills necessary to adapt to resource-limited settings.

GLEs invite exploration, collaboration, and curiosity in our learners--while sparking joy and reminding them of the core reasons medicine has become their chosen pathway.

Participants from inside and beyond our program can earn certificates of completion for participating in our learning experiences. Contact us to learn more.
