Dr. Sandweiss has been a pediatrician in the University of Utah (UU) Dept. of Pediatric's Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine since 2006. He completed college and medical school at UCLA, and, in 1999, a Pediatric Residency at University of Washington/Seattle Children's Hospital. He practiced general pediatrics for Navajo Area Indian Health Service for 5 years and continues to provide care in Tribal communities in Arizona, Utah, and South Dakota.
Dr. Sandweiss is the Director of Rural and American Indian Outreach for the Dept. of Pediatrics Global, Rural, and Underserved Child Health (GRUCH) Program, and the Director of the UUSOM Tribal, Rural and Urban Underserved Medical Education (TRUE) Graduate Certificate. He has developed and implemented UME and GME curriculum for trainees interested in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to practice wise, compassionate, culturally appropriate care in TRU communities. He also has an interest in health professional wellness and co-directs the UU and Intermountain Health Mindfulness in Medicine Programs.
