Opportunities

Attending Information

When you're working with attendings at the hospital, attendings are on call 24/7, 7 days at a time (typically Monday AM to Monday AM). They usually round at 8 am. Come in a little before 8 am to look over patients' labs and talk to nurses. No need to pre-round. You won't be required to come in overnight, but if there's an especially sick patient you're following and you want your attending to notify you if issues come up on that person overnight, then let the attendings know.

We'll also help you make a schedule for outpatient. Not all attendings work everyday, so you'll probably be with a mix of different providers.

Tips

Because case volume is lower in rural areas, it's important to be proactive and take opportunities as they come. Introduce yourself to people here and when things come up (procedures, cool cases, etc.) then we can let you know. For example, even if you're in clinic for the morning you can always skip a patient and run over to the hospital for a procedure or an interesting case in the ER. We want this rotation to be high-yield.
