Study Outcomes
The research team has completed the analysis of the outcomes data. The MAMA training had positive impacts on provider outcomes.
Following the MAMA training, providers reported significant improvements in respectful maternity care, self-efficacy to care for women living with HIV (WLHIV), and HIV stigmatizing attitudes and practices. In addition, providers reported high levels of satisfaction with the training.
Comparing women who delivered in the periods before and after the provider intervention, we did not observe any significant differences in self-reported maternity care. However, we did observe a notable decrease in cesarean sections among WLHIV, from 33% of births in the pre-intervention period to 24% of births in the post-intervention period.
Stay tuned for forthcoming publications on the MAMA outcomes!
Dissemination
In December 2023, the US and Tanzania research team visited the six study clinics to share the findings of the research. It was wonderful to see the providers who participated in the MAMA training and to hear how they are working tirelessly towards the goal of providing respectful and non-stigmatizing care for all their patients.
Training
Following the success of the MAMA training, the research team hosted a one-day workshop for 20 clinical leaders on how to plan and implement simulation training using the PRONTO model. The day was filled with a lot of laughter and learning. The PRONTO simulation materials will live at the KCMC College of Nursing and will be available for education and capacity-building efforts.
