After losing the presidential election in 1912 Theodore Rosevelt wanted to explore the Amazon. Rosevelt said "This is my last chance to be a boy." Theo never really liked idle vacations to anywhere. But he was going to the largest rainforest in the world. He was about to explore one of the smaller rivers that flows into to the main river the Amazon the mysterious river Rio da Dúvida also called the River of Doubt. In late 1913, after Theo had completed his tour, the expedition got underway. Along with an army of porters, explorers, and scientists. From there, they set off on a 2 month overland trek toward the River of Doubt. Still carrying a bullet in his chest from a failed assassination, they were not on a good start. Three men were struck down by a tropical disease and half the groups pack animals died. The expedition only got harder and harder. Next he was getting tormented by mosquitos and stinging bugs and he almost got bit by a very poisonous coral snake. Theo also had many other run ins with wildlife but made it out- barely.
