Coach Garoutte is in her 10th year of teaching and coaching. She is entering her third year as the head girls basketball coach at Grapevine High School. Coach Garoutte is a Plano West alum, class of 2007. While at Plano West, she helped the Lady Wolves win a 5A State Championship in 2006. She went on to play collegiate basketball at Texas Christian University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in 2012. Coach Garoutte started her coaching and teaching career in Plano ISD, spending 3 years there before being hired at Marcus High School in 2019. She spent 4 years at Marcus as an assistant basketball and track coach, leaving after receiving her first head coaching job at GHS. Go Mustangs!
Now entering her sixth year of coaching, Coach Dale brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and player development expertise to the program. A standout basketball player during her collegiate career at Tulane University, she left her mark as one of the most productive and efficient forwards in program history.
Before her collegiate career, coach Dale was a decorated athlete at Community High School in Texas, where she surpassed 2,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds, earning TABC All-State and TGCA All-State honors. A four-year All-District selection and three-time Offensive Player of the Year, she led her team to multiple tournament titles and was recognized on the Greenville Herald Banner Dream Team as a freshman.
Off the court, coach dale excelled academically, earning TABC Academic All-State honors, and continues to carry that same commitment to excellence into her coaching career.
Now in her sixth season on the sidelines, Coach Dale is passionate about teaching fundamentals, fostering confidence in her players, and developing strong student-athletes who lead with integrity. Her experience as a high-level collegiate athlete provides her with invaluable perspective in mentoring the next generation of players.
Heather Ware has proudly served in GCISD for 20 years and brings 8 years of basketball coaching experience to her role, including the past 3 years at Grapevine High School. Throughout her coaching career, Heather has been dedicated to helping athletes grow not only in their basketball skills and abilities but also in their character, leadership, and mental toughness. She believes that sports provide powerful opportunities to build confidence and resilience that extend far beyond the court.
Outside of coaching and teaching, Heather enjoys lifting, traveling, and reading. She is married and shares her life with three beloved dachshunds, who are a big part of her family and daily joy.
Coach Smalls joins the Mustangs as our Freshman Girls Basketball coach. Originally from Barstow, California, he played college football and baseball at Compton College and then Oklahoma Panhandle State University. After college Coach Smalls played minor league independent baseball for the Santa Fe Fuego, eventually joining the Fuego in his first coaching job. His football coaching career has included stops around the country at Capital High School in New Mexico, Jack Britt High School, Pinecrest High School, Ovilla Christian School, Walnut Grove Middle School, St. Andrews University in North Carolina and Southwestern Assembly of God University (SAGU).
Coach Smalls loves spending time with his six year old daughter, Nia. They enjoy playing sports as well as lazy days bingeing video games. His favorite vacation spot is Philadelphia, because there is no shortage of good food and places to explore. Fun fact about Coach Smalls: He once ran the LA marathon in 5 hours.
