WICOR Summer Series: Interactive Notebooks for ALL
This session explore the why and how of an Interactive Notebook (INB) as a tool for supporting students’ learning. Teachers will learn the process of setting up an entry in the notebook utilizing the model of right side for direct input and left side for processing output of each entry. Participants will engage in a variety of collaborative learning structures that can be applied when planning lessons utilizing INBs. This will allow their students to dive deeper into the content and take ownership of their learning

In a Collaborative Study Group (CSG), students identify a specific question from a content area, collaborate to develop and deepen their understanding through Socratic inquiry, and apply their new learning in order to enhance classroom performance. Participants will experience CSGs by watching classroom applications and participating in a mock CSG before developing a personal implementation plan for their own classrooms.

RegXI Social Studies on ICE: Inquiry, Creativity, and Enrichment in the Social Studies Classroom
The ICE series is designed to provide content-specific instructional strategies to amplify core content for gifted and advanced learners. In this course, we will explore what inquiry, creativity, and enrichment look like in the Social Studies classroom. We will examine methods that promote inquiry and creativity such as primary source analysis and questioning strategies that encourage higher-level thinking. Participants will receive 3 hours of GT update credit for this course and will be offered the opportunity to complete an independent extension activity to earn another 3 hours of GT update credit.

LRE Sumners Institute on the Founding Documents
Join Law-Related Education for this institute which is a perfect fit for middle and high school U.S. History teachers as well as high school U.S. Government or anyone wanting to learn more about our nation’s founding documents. The focus is on The Declaration of Independence, English and Early American Influences on the development of the U.S. Constitution, the Constitutional Convention, the Federalist and Anti-Federalist debates, and a walk through the articles of the U.S. Constitution.
This institute divides blocks of time spent with scholars followed by breakout sessions featuring demonstrations of TEKS aligned lessons that can be used to supplement existing curriculum. Teachers will receive lunch each day, access to all materials, and 21 hours of professional development credit.

Humanities Texas Teacher Institute: Teaching the Civil War and Reconstruction
This institute will cover significant topics in Civil War and Reconstruction history from the antebellum period through the legacies of Reconstruction. Presentations will focus on such topics as slavery, the road to the Civil War, abolitionists, the Fugitive Slave Act, the Compromise of 1850, Dred Scott v. Sanford, teaching the Civil War through maps, how Americans fought, Chocktaw Confederates and the Civil War West, Juneteenth, Reconstruction, and the Reconstruction Amendments.
Participants will receive a $400 stipend and are eligible for travel reimbursement of approved travel costs up to $300. Housing is also available to out-of-town teachers at no cost. (Additional information and application)

This institute is designed to target low-performing eighth-grade TEKS and to complement the existing curriculum. Working with scholars and consultants, participants will learn and receive valuable content, methods, and resources. Humanities Texas Teacher Institute: Teaching Evidence-Based Reading Practices at the Secondary Level (Virtual)
This online institute, held in partnership with the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at The University of Texas at Austin, will focus on teaching reading at the sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade levels for both social studies and English language arts (ELA) teachers. Online sessions will include interactive presentations on research-based approaches to teaching reading and content-area literacy with an emphasis on social studies texts.
