WICOR Summer Series: Interactive Notebooks for ALL
This session explore the why and how of an Interactive Notebook (INB) as a tool for supporting students’ learning. Teachers will learn the process of setting up an entry in the notebook utilizing the model of right side for direct input and left side for processing output of each entry. Participants will engage in a variety of collaborative learning structures that can be applied when planning lessons utilizing INBs. This will allow their students to dive deeper into the content and take ownership of their learning

Text Entry and More! STAAR Redesign Instructional Strategies for Grades 3-5
In this session, ESC Region 11 consultants will outline important changes to the STAAR Redesign for Mathematics, grades 3-5. Participants will experience effective instructional strategies that align with the STAAR Redesign and promote mathematical thinking to support student success on the following new STAAR math item types: Equation Editor, Text Entry, Drag and Drop, and Hot Spot. In a Collaborative Study Group (CSG), students identify a specific question from a content area, collaborate to develop and deepen their understanding through Socratic inquiry, and apply their new learning in order to enhance classroom performance. Participants will experience CSGs by watching classroom applications and participating in a mock CSG before developing a personal implementation plan for their own classrooms.

Through hands-on activities focusing on measurement and data, connections will be made to whole-number operations and fraction concepts. Support for diverse learners continues through grade-level mathematics, problem-solving experiences, and discourse strategies. Making the Most of Your Math Manipulatives
What do I do with all this stuff?! You may have thought this when trying to make sense of your math manipulatives. This six-hour professional development session will focus on making the most of math manipulatives in your classroom. Topics include the most common math manipulatives and how to use them, organization and storage of supplies, instructional design to fit different math topics, how to manage students best while using the manipulatives, and how to use manipulatives with increasing flexibility. Teachers will leave this session equipped to use manipulatives to their full potential.

This five-part series will take participants into a deep dive into the standards for grades 6-8, looking at vertical alignment for overarching concepts within this grade band.
