mCLASS/Lectura Learning Modules - conducting the assessment, analyzing/interpreting reports, instruction/intervention
Self-paced modules for mCLASS and Lectura universal screening and progress monitoring assessment. mCLASS is used K-2 at all campuses except Silver Lake and Timberline where mCLASS is used K-5. Lectura is the Spanish universal screener used in K-5 at Silver Lake and Timberline. These modules will provide information regarding how to administer the different subtests and how to read the reports once the students have completed the assessment. The modules also include information on how to utilize the instruction and intervention resources that group students by their literacy needs once the assessment has been completed. WICOR Summer Series: Interactive Notebooks for ALL
This session explore the why and how of an Interactive Notebook (INB) as a tool for supporting students’ learning. Teachers will learn the process of setting up an entry in the notebook utilizing the model of right side for direct input and left side for processing output of each entry. Participants will engage in a variety of collaborative learning structures that can be applied when planning lessons utilizing INBs. This will allow their students to dive deeper into the content and take ownership of their learning

Back That Thang' Up: Using Text Evidence to Support Constructed Response
The new writing demands of the state assessments will require students to construct short responses to text based questions. Students’ ability to clearly answer the questions asked and select the best text evidence to support their responses will depend on the number and quality of opportunities they have to practice these vital skills. In this session, participants will gain an understanding of the new STAAR assessment requirements for short constructed response questions, learn strategies to create text based questions based on the TEKS, and help facilitate students’ abilities to compose written responses which provide appropriate text evidence.

Aligning Texts & TEKS for Secondary ELAR (VIRTUAL)
Text complexity and targeted TEKS are critical components of instruction as we strive for student growth. Text complexity, according to TEA, increases with challenging vocabulary, sophisticated sentence structures, nuanced text features, cognitively demanding content, and subtle relationships among ideas. Humanities Texas Teacher Institute: Teaching Evidence-Based Reading Practices at the Secondary Level (Virtual)
This online institute, held in partnership with the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at The University of Texas at Austin, will focus on teaching reading at the sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade levels for both social studies and English language arts (ELA) teachers. Online sessions will include interactive presentations on research-based approaches to teaching reading and content-area literacy with an emphasis on social studies texts. Faculty presentations will focus on developing students’ word study, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.

Humanities Texas Teacher Institute: Primary Source Pedagogy with the National Archives (Virtual)
The webinar series, held in partnership with the National Archives and Records Administration and the National Archives Foundation, will focus on student-centered pedagogy to promote the integration of primary sources into classroom instruction. Functioning as a learning community, the selected cohort of teachers will meet for three sessions this summer, submitting required assignments and activities in between. Conferring for Reading & Writing Growth
When a teacher confers with an individual student or a small group of students, there is increased opportunity for formative assessment data and differentiation. Reading and writing conferences provide reinforcement and/or an extension of skills that lead to student growth. In this session, we'll explore the what, when, why, and how of conducting conferences with secondary students. Participants will evaluate conference strategies and resources for application within their unique classroom community.
