Texas Dyslexia Academy 3: Considerations for Emergent Bilingual Students (Virtual)
Texas Dyslexia Academy 3: Considerations for Emergent Bilingual Students is the third of six training opportunities developed to assist school districts and charter schools with services related to dyslexia and related disorders. In this course, participants will receive a general overview of the unique needs of emergent bilingual students within the dyslexia evaluation process. The objectives for this course are: - Understand how The Dyslexia Handbook, 2021 Update addresses emergent bilingual students - Understand the process of second-language acquisition - Learn about the benefits of bilingualism - Explore the various types of alphabetic systems that exist around the world - Understand data gathering and formal evaluation - Explore instructional programming for emergent bilingual students

The SLAR TEKS Toolkit (K-3)
The Spanish language arts and reading TEKS identify what is critical for students to know and be able to do to become literate in the Spanish language. In this session offered at ESC Region 11, we will study the SLAR standards to determine the intended learning outcomes and plan for the learning experiences and instruction that facilitate student learning.

In a Collaborative Study Group (CSG), students identify a specific question from a content area, collaborate to develop and deepen their understanding through Socratic inquiry, and apply their new learning in order to enhance classroom performance. Participants will experience CSGs by watching classroom applications and participating in a mock CSG before developing a personal implementation plan for their own classrooms.

mCLASS/Lectura Learning Modules - conducting the assessment, analyzing/interpreting reports, instruction/intervention
Self-paced modules for mCLASS and Lectura universal screening and progress monitoring assessment. mCLASS is used K-2 at all campuses except Silver Lake and Timberline where mCLASS is used K-5. Lectura is the Spanish universal screener used in K-5 at Silver Lake and Timberline. These modules will provide information regarding how to administer the different subtests and how to read the reports once the students have completed the assessment. The modules also include information on how to utilize the instruction and intervention resources that group students by their literacy needs once the assessment has been completed.
