Geology Instructional Council (IC)
From 1994 - 2009 and 2021 to present, I served as a member of the Geology Instructional Council, a district-wide committee consisting of geology teachers from each college. The Instructional Council evaluates new course proposals and consults with administration on issues that affect hiring qualifications, geology education and the recruitment and marketability of our students.
Geology Articulation Task Force (ATF)
From 1994 - 2009 and 2021 to present, I have served on the state's Geology Articulation Task Force, a committee consisting of geology teachers representing the state's universities and community colleges that decides how courses/degrees transfer from one institution to another. Under suspicious circumstances ;-), I was elected to serve two terms (1997-1998) as the Chairperson of this committee. During my tenure as Chair, I collaborated closely with colleagues at ASU and our District to establish the Global Awareness designation for GLG101 in addition to identifying problems in- and potential solutions for- the new AGEC standards. I served again as the co-chair for the 2005-2006 academic year in which the committee drafted a new AGEC-S and lobbied the Arizona Senate on legislation that would have affected geology education. I occasionally still collaborate with the ATF members on issues that affect geology education and the marketability of our students.
Maricopa Priorities
In 2013, I was ordered to write a report essentially justifying the existence of the Geology Program at Glendale Community College to the Maricopa Community College District. After a rather time-consuming arduous process, the District recommended to maintain the Program on the basis of that report.
