School Health

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to provide you with the guidelines for students receiving medications at school. These guidelines have been adopted by the Giles County Board of Education and will be enforced at this school.

MEDICATIONS - Both prescription and over-the-counter must be brought to school and given to the nurse by a parent or responsible adult. Prescription medications must be in a properly labeled pharmacy bottle. School personnel will not give medications that are not properly labeled. Any medication sent to school in a zip-lock bag will NOT be given! Board policy prohibits students from bringing medicines to school as well as carrying medicines of any kind on the school bus.

All over-the-counter medications require a "permission to give over-the-counter medicines at school" completed and filed in the nurse's clinic. If a physician prescribes the medicine, a doctor's order must also be on file in the nurse's clinic. The forms, to be completed by the doctor and the parent, may be picked up in the nurse's clinic as well. PLEASE NOTE: Absolutely NO stock medications are kept here to give the students. If a student needs any over-the-counter medicines, he/she must have his own bottle kept in the clinic.

The parent is responsible for picking up any unused medications. If the parent does not pick up the unused medicine, it will be discarded at the end of the school year. Students will not be permitted to take medicines home.

Our goal is a safe and successful school year for your child.
