Each month, our class will practice a memory verse which ties in with our Bible lessons, as well as a Chapel Verse for the month. To receive credit for the verse, students need to recite the verse as well as the reference. While we set due dates, students can also tell me they have memorized it and recite it before the due date.
Our class has dedicated a bulletin board to spotlight your child this year. This is an opportunity to honor each student in a special way.
The Star Student will bring home a Read About Me poster on the Friday before their week to decorate and fill in over the weekend. Students may also bring a few additional pictures to be posted on the board if they wish.
Week at a Glance:
Monday: Poster – The student will bring in their Read About Me poster to share and put up on the Star Student board.
Tuesday: Estimation Jar – The student will bring in the class estimation jar filled with an item of their choice. (examples might be marbles, macaroni, clothing pins, buttons, skittles, crackers, etc.) It does not have to be edible. The rest of the class will estimate the number of objects, count the actual number, find sums and differences, and make equal groups. Please tape the number (less than 100) onto the inside bottom of the lid.
Wednesday: Show and Share – The student may bring one or two small items to school that help us get to know them better. Examples might be trophies, crafts, stuffed toy, etc. Please do not send any breakable or irreplaceable items to school.
Thursday: Friendly Letter Day – Students in the classroom will write the star student a special letter to go home at the end of their Star Student week.
Friday: My Favorite Book – As a great way to wrap up their special week, the Star Student will bring their favorite at-home/public library picture book to school to share with the class during morning reading time.
Students will take home a monthly reading log to track their reading at home. Each month, they will return their log to the classroom. If they meet their reading goal (varies between 15-20 minutes, 5 times a week), they will receive a sticker for that month. As their minutes accumulate throughout the year, students will earn special prizes when they reach 500, 1500, 3000, 5000, and up to 10 000 minute totals.
It is expected that students read a minimum of 15 minutes of reading per day, 5 days a week. This adds up to 300 minutes of reading a month!
Reading with your child is a great way to encourage them to grow in their literacy skills!
I am so excited to have parent volunteers come help our classroom!
Please note that parent volunteers will begin the week of September 30.
Volunteers are asked to arrive between 8:20-8:30 am, and typically stay until 10:00 (recess) or 11:40 (lunch).
Prior to volunteering please ensure that you have submitted a copy of your Police information check and Volunteer Agreement to the office. When you come to volunteer, please sign in at the office and receive your volunteer name tag.
