Residency Cards: NIE&TIE

If you are from a country member of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you will need to register with the Foreigners Central Registry to obtain a Foreigner Identification Number (“NIE”).

If you are from a country outside of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you will need to apply for the Foreigner Identity Card (“TIE”)

The first step for both is to get Empadronado in the city.

Empadronamiento Barcelona

Empadronamiento certificate is an official register of where you live in spain. You can obtain this by making an appointment with the government office through this website. Some useful information on how to get the empadronamiento and the documents necessary can be found here.

The next step to get the NIE/TIE is to make an appointment through this website; once you select the type of process you need, it will then give you a list documents and forms you should bring to the appointment.
