Utheemu is a small island in Haa Alif Atoll of the Maldives. It is one of the most historical islands in Maldives. Utheemu is famed as the birth place of Sultan Muhamed Thakurufaanu, who with his brothers and his companions fought an eight-year-long war to drive out the Portuguese invaders who occupied the Maldives from 1558 to 1573. There are many historical places in Utheemu, including the Palace, Utheemu Ganduvaaru, where Sultan Muhamed Thakurufaanu and his family lived. Most of the historical places in this island are connected with the life of Sultan Muhamed Thakurufaanu, and his family.
History of Ghaazee Bandaarain Shool
Ghaazee Bandaarain School was inaugurated on 10th November, 1986 by the former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. The school commenced its academic functioning initially at Boduthakurufaanu Han’dhaanee Marukazu building with the name “Madharusathul Sulthan Muhammed Thakurufaanul Auzam”. In 2009, the school was relocated to the current building and later on, renamed as “Ghaazee Bandaarain School” in 2015.
Achievements:
- First Cambridge O’level Examination and Secondary School Examination were conducted in 2007.
- In 2011, the school achieved Cambridge O’level Progress Award.
- In 2012, the school acquired Cambridge O’level Progress Award and Achievement Award.
- In 2019, a student of Ghaazee Bandaarain School was nominated for the National Top 10 O’level results.
Current Status:
Ghaazee Bandaarain School is an O’level standard, English Medium school ,under the Ministry of Education, in the Maldives, with the total strength of 149 students and 37 staff. There are 12 grades of four Key Stages in this school which include Lower Kindergarten, Upper Kindergarten and grades 1 to 10. The subjects taught in this school include Qur’an, Islamic Studies, Dhivehi Bas, Mathematics, English Language, General Science, Social Studies, Accounting, Business Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Health and Physical Education, Creative Arts and BTech Level 2 Diploma in Hospitality.
