The physical herbarium of the Department of Biological Sciences, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India (GBPUH) has adopted the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group classification (APG IV, 2016) in recognising and arranging the families. Genera in the families are arranged in alphabetical order. The Gymnosperm families follow Christenhusz et al. (2011). Virtual Herbarium Pantnagar (VHP) displays the majority of the specimens of GBPUH. However, in VHP, Angiosperm and Gymnosperm families are arranged in alphabetical order for easy access. Pages in the VHP are family-wise and all family members are displayed on the same page.
There are five types of specimens in the herbarium:
Identified specimens uploaded and visible on the family page in Virtual Herbarium Pantnagar. These are marked with an asterisk [*].
Identified specimen given in ‘More Specimens’ with link to their image and listed as 1, 2, 3 etc. with shown specimen on family page in Virtual herbarium Pantnagar. These are marked with a double asterisk [**].
More identified specimens available in the herbarium but not shown on the family page in Virtual Herbarium. These are marked with a triple asterisk [***].
Unidentified specimens or specimens identified up to family or genus rank and available in the herbarium but not shown on the family page in Virtual Herbarium. These are marked with hash [#].
Voucher specimens which are shown college-wise on separate pages.
The ‘specimens visible on the family pages’, ‘more specimens’ and the ‘voucher specimens’ are included in the VHP. A total of 857 specimens of GBPUH are accessible through VHP pages. The number of specimens in GBPUH and VHP will gradually increase with the addition of more and more specimens in future.
A complete catalogue of the GBPUH is available here as a PDF file.
