October 2023 Newsletter

A Message From Mr. Gloudemans:

Hello Rocket Families,

Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year! It has been great visiting the classrooms and seeing the students with their cameras on, engaged in the learning activities with their class. The home-school partnership is crucial for students' success in a virtual learning world, which is why we hope there is ongoing communication be you and your child's teacher. To support this communication and to reflect on the progress your student has made, I encourage all families to sign up for a Parent-Teacher Conference on either November 9th or November 14th. If those days do not work, please reach out directly to your child's teacher and they will work with you to schedule something. Lastly, if you need support scheduling your child's conference please reach out to the main office. We will make sure we help you get it all set up.

Make it a great day!

Mr. Gloudemans

Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences

It's hard to believe parent teacher conferences are right around the corner. Fall conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 9th and Tuesday, November 14th from 3:30-7:00 p.m. and will be held virtually.

Families can view available times and sign up for conferences on EduSched. If needed, please use this Guide to help create or sign into your account and request a time to meet with your student(s)' teacher(s).

If you have any problems setting up your eduSched account, please contact the school’s main office. If you have challenges scheduling a conference, please contact your child’s teacher, and they should be able to help you get a conference scheduled.

New Seesaw App Icon

The Seesaw app is getting a new application icon, but don’t worry, the way you use the app will stay the same.

Anytime after October 27th, you can update to the newest version of the iOS or Android app to see this change.

If you access Seesaw via the website, app.seesaw.me, the updates are automatic.

Upcoming 2nd Grade Testing

The window to administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to second graders is coming up quickly.

Our testing day at KJA will be on Thursday, November 2nd from approximately 12:00 - 1:15 p.m.

The CogAT is a screener that provides a snapshot of abilities in the areas of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal functioning. Results are expected towards the end of November, at which time they will be shared with you.

This testing will be proctored by our Gifted and Talented Program Support Teacher, Melissa Gerke, on site at KJA. Parents/guardians are not permitted to be in the testing area. Families are welcome to drop off students and come back or wait outside.

Participation is voluntary, and we ask each family to respond to let us know if you plan to have your student participate as soon as possible. Students that will participate will need to bring along their Chromebook and headphones the day of testing.

Please reach out to the office if you have any questions or concerns.

Weather Related Closings and Cancellations

When severe weather happens, KJA follows the district's inclement weather plan.

If schools have a 2 hour delay, classes will be at 10:00 a.m. Teachers will then let your student(s) know how the day will proceed.

If school is cancelled for the day so is the online school. Students will not have to do work if school is cancelled.

Stay up-to-date on weather-related closures and delays through the district's school messaging system and through local news sources.
